Angelo Arias, violin
Fawzi S. Haimor principal violin II

Angelo Arias started his orchestra career with the San Diego Youth Symphony, playing in the main orchestra from 1995-98. He then played in UC Berkeley's orchestra from 1999-2004, and wanting to find a new group, finally started playing with UC Davis's orchestra in 2004.

First piece I ever played in full orchestra: Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture
Favorite symphony: Mahler 2 (Beethoven 3 on weekends)
Favorite concerto: Walton Viola Concerto
Favorite orchestral non-symphony/concerto piece: Bartok Dance Suite
Hardest piece I've played: Tie between Bartok Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celeste and Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet Suite
Pieces I still need to play before I die: West Side Story and Wagner's Meistersinger overture. I wouldn't mind another shot at Mahler 5.

Best orchestra memory: end of Mahler 2 with UCBSO, April 29 2000
Best UCDSO memory: watching the curtain go up on Carmen, May 5, 2007
I will never play: Dvorak Slavonic Dances
I have played Dvorak 8, Beethoven 5, Beethoven 9, and Mahler 1 three times.
I have played all Brahms symphonies (I know, he only has four).
I have won a concerto audition by coin toss.
I have played a good Dvorak concert in the Vigado, and a bad Janacekconcert at the Janacek Academy.
I have stolen orchestra violin parts whenever I can, so I can play them on the weekends. I have learned everything I know from watching everyone with whom I've played.
