Lara O'Dwyer Brown started playing cello when she was four years old in Dublin, Ireland, and for many years was taught by Betty Barrett. She has been a member of several orchestras in Ireland including the National Youth Orchestra, and has played in Europe as principal cellist in the Symphony Dublin Youth Orchestra.
Brown studied science at Trinity College Dublin, and earned her B.A. with a moderatorship in geology in 2004. She is now pursuing her Ph.D. in geology at UC Davis. She lives with her husband Eric and their orange tabby Tíogar (Irish for tiger) in Davis, and enjoys playing softball and following the NY Mets.
