Isabel Ortiz is a sophomore at Davis High School. She
has been studying cello with Julie Hochman for 8
years. She was principal cello of the Davis Combined
Junior High Orchestra for 3 years, and is currently co-principal cello of the Davis Senior High School
Symphony. She played in the Sacramento Youth Symphony
Premier Orchestra, and performs regularly with various
chamber groups in the Sacramento area. She also
performs with orchestras in Fairfield and Vacaville,
including yearly performances of Handel’s Messiah with
the Solano Symphony. In 2006, she won the American
String Teacher’s Association Modern Music Competition.
She has also participated in various Sacramento Youth
Symphony chamber music workshops and has played in the
Davis Cello Festival. In the summer of 2005, she
attended Sierra Mountain Music Camp, and last summer
she went to the Sequoia Chamber Music Workshop at
Humboldt University. In May 2007, she performed a solo
piece, Sakura, with the Davis Combined Junior High
Orchestra. She has also participated in various master
classes with visiting cellists, including David
Russell, Andy Luchansky, Sarah Finley, and Silvia
Luna.
